It’s been a long year and it feels great to be back online again. I have missed having some place to write down my thoughts and ideas which i have had quite a few. I learnt to watch free movies online and listen to free music too. Before that i thought you had to download the stuff to get access to it.
I take this time to announce that i should be graduating in a few months and also getting married after that. Yeah a lot has transpired in the last year.
Well I will be posting in a couple of days.
Rest in peace Dad
A few weeks ago my father passed away i cant bring myself to write on it so I got a poem insted to say what i cant for now:
I looked for you this morning,
I looked for you last night.
I looked for you everywhere,
But you were not in sight.
My heart is really breaking,
My eyes are never Dry.
Each day I ask my maker,
Why did you have to die.
He came to you one evening,
While you were fast asleep.
Although he took you painlessly,
The pain for me is deep.
I tell you now dear Daddy,
There is only one thing left for me to do,
And that’s for me to keep your memories alive in my heart!
I always took it for granted my dad would always be there and of all the things i wish i could have told him
only one hurts me that i never got to tell him I LOVE you DAD.
I know with our African culture it’s just taken for granted that our parents know what we feel for them, but thats not enough I just wish i had told him that the last time i talked with him i still remember his laugh as we talked only a couple of hours before his soul was laid to rest.
Securing your VSFTP server
If you are running your own FTP server you know how irritating it is to keep going through your logs and see them filled up with brute force attack attempts. I have VSFTP running and i found a way to go around this i was having nearly 80k to 100k attempts a day, it was very frustrating to see all this crackers from china and whearever wasting my cpu time, so i did some checking on confguring vsftp on default it checks for all usernames provided and the password on all atempts but by adding userlist_deny=NO to the config file and creating a userlist, any attempt with an illegal usernmae is denied access without the option of entering a password. After that restart vsftp, I haven’t had a single succesful attempt since then my logs changed showing from 80k attempts to 0 now i can rest easy and move on with peace on my mind.
Fun of being a programmer
The good thing about being a programmer is tinkerig with stuff and putting changes you want on a product that didn’t have them it’s a very good feeling believe me, here are some guys having fun with the apple TV so if you have one you can go and take a look at some of the mods that you can do to yours to soup it up a bit. Once in a while you visit a site streaming some video that you would like to save to your machine here is a site that can help you with that if you know of a better way of doing it you can point us to it.

TO solve this error in fedora core 5 i did
# yum install php-mcrypt
restart your browser and you should be ok.
This just makes me love linux try this in windows you will need more than four words to get it done
My grammar sucks
Ever since i started writing my blog and updating my site i have noticed that my grammer sucks and for my year resolution i have decided i need to read more books i have already read three this year that is more than i have done in the last three years. I drive around with a trunck full of novels which i need to finish before the year ends, i wish watching movies would help coz i have 200+ but they aint helping my english none, so i will stick with tried and tested way mucho reading, but first let me go watch a movie before i pick up another novel, its so easy with movies instant gratification one and a half hours and you know everything a novel i will probably be getting to the climax of the story 12 hours from now i dont know how people do this”reading”.
Internet Security
I have been running my server for over a year now and spent a considerable time putting it together, while going through the logs i discovered that there have been countless attacks on it every single day am currently reading a lot of security material but it is amazing to see the number of evil people out there and what they can do. So if you have a machine connected to the net please make sure its secured and the first rule is if you can find your password in a dictionary even with a number or two at the end or beginning change it.
